Hello readers, welcome to my blog K-pop or pop. We all listen to music right? Well there are different genres to them and today I will be focusing on two genres K-pop and Pop. Let’s begin!
What is K-pop?
K-pop is basically Korean music. K-pop is mostly in the form of groups but there are some soloists like IU, Chungha, Hyuna etc. Some famous K-pop groups are BTS, Blackpink, Stray Kids, Red Velvet, Itzy etc. Some K-pop idols act in korean shows for example Cha Eun-woo from ASTRO acted in a K-drama called True Beauty. Kim Tae-hyung from BTS acted in a K-drama called Hwarang.
What makes K-pop different from Pop?
K-pop is different from Pop because if you want to become a K-pop idol you have to audition for a company like Hybe Labels, JYP, YG, etc. but if you want to become a pop artist it is not compulsory to audition for a company. When you become a K-pop idol you have to follow many rules which will be as worse as dieting so much that you have to eat only 1 cup of ramen per day.
In order to maintain their looks, K-pop idols have to take serious measures. In pop, you don’t need to take such serious measures because you won’t be kicked out of the company. K-pop idols work really hard and are also scammed by their managers like how Lisa from BLACKPINK got scammed for a lot of money from her ex-manager. Pop has many artists and has won many awards but there are a few bands that people know about K-pop like BTS, BLACKPINK, EXO, ITZY, and TWICE. People started auditioning for K-pop groups many bands started forming. Some bands disbanded after a short time after debuting because it didn’t work out. Although some K-pop groups have been in the industry for more than 10+ years and are still together. Pop mostly has solo singers like Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, etc.
K-pop has many fanbases and based on the band their fans are called a specific word just like Pop. For BTS it’s ARMY, BLACKPINK its BLINK, TWICE it’s ONCE, STRAY KIDS its STAYS, etc. Each and every band has a different name for their fans which the band itself comes up with. BTS has the most international fans in the K-pop world. Of course, being a famous K-pop idol brings people who want to be like you. There is a guy called Oli London who claims he is Jimin from BTS. He even spent thousands of dollars in plastic surgery to look like Jimin but he isn’t even close to looking like him. Even Jimin reacted to him, Oli London also says he is 25, lives in Busan, and is the king of K-pop.
He also told that in Korea people don’t have a problem with him being like Jimin whereas so many Koreans uploaded videos telling him he is nothing like Jimin. He says ‘when I walk down the street they’re like oh my god its Jimin’, it’s Jimin but no one believes to have ever done that, look at the difference.
There are people even in Pop who have said to be their favorite artists but no one has done plastic surgery worth a lot of money. He even got a cardboard cutout of Jimin saying he is married to him. BTS has seen many fans but not one like this. They have even told their fans to love themselves and not to change anything about themselves to look more like BTS. Oli London said he is Korean after he got Korean surgery but said ‘I don’t want to be Korean or Asian’ then later got surgery to make his eyes more almond-shaped. I don’t think there is anyone who is like this in Pop or I just may not know about them.
